Head of Financial Control

3 Mar 2026

Sydney, NSW, AU

At Lion, we have built solid finance foundations and we continue to strive for a best-in-class finance function that enables performance, discipline and growth. As we continue to evolve our systems, processes and governance framework, we are seeking an exceptional Head of Financial Control to lead and elevate our financial control environment across the Group. This is a fixed term contract opportunity covering parental leave, based at our Lion office in York Street, Sydney.

This is a critical leadership role within Finance, reporting to the Fin Control, Tax and Treasury Director, with end-to-end accountability for financial control, consolidation integrity, and core accounting operations.

You will lead a broad portfolio including Group consolidation, intercompany governance and settlements, payroll, accounting services and fixed assets, ensuring technical excellence, operational rigour and disciplined execution.

A Day in the Life

  • Lead and develop multiple finance teams (Payroll, Intercompany, Accounting Services and Fixed Assets), embedding a high-performance, accountability-driven culture.
  • Own the integrity of the Group consolidation process, ensuring accurate, timely and technically robust reporting under IFRS.
  • Drive excellence in FCCS/HFM consolidation systems, ensuring optimal hierarchy design, intercompany elimination accuracy and reporting discipline.
  • Lead the end-to-end intercompany framework — governance, reconciliations, dispute resolution and settlements — including remediation of legacy imbalances.
  • Oversee payroll governance and accounting services delivery, ensuring compliance, control robustness and service excellence.
  • Own fixed asset accounting and capex governance, ensuring appropriate capitalisation policies and asset lifecycle management.
  • Lead statutory compliance and support Board reporting with strong technical oversight.
  • Partner with Group Tax, Treasury, Business Units and offshore teams to ensure consistent application of accounting policy.
  • Proactively identify and remediate control gaps, system inefficiencies and process weaknesses.
  • Play a lead role in significant transactions and audit engagement.

What Will Make You Successful

We are seeking a technically outstanding, hands-on finance leader who combines deep consolidation expertise with operational breadth.

You will bring:

  • Significant experience leading Group consolidation in a large, complex corporate environment.
  • Deep technical IFRS expertise, including statutory reporting and complex transaction accounting.
  • Demonstrated experience managing intercompany frameworks at scale, including clean-up, netting and settlement disciplines.
  • Strong systems capability in FCCS or HFM (critical).
  • Experience leading operational finance functions beyond reporting (e.g. payroll, shared services, fixed assets or accounting services).
  • Proven ability to elevate financial control environments and drive process excellence.
  • Strong audit interface experience and credibility with external stakeholders.
  • A professional qualification (CA/CPA or equivalent).
  • 10+ years post-graduate experience in Big 4 and/or large corporate environments.
  • A leadership style that is visible, decisive, detail-oriented and accountable.
  • This is a hands on role, where you are prepared to roll up your sleeves but also build capability and support growth and accountability within the team.

This is a rare opportunity to step into a highly visible leadership role with broad operational scope and the ability to materially strengthen Lion’s financial control environment.
