Equipment Specialist
Lidcombe, NSW, AU
Producing some of Australia's favourite beverages, Tooheys is a New South Wales institution!
We're looking for an experienced and proactive Equipment Specialist (Internal Title: Machine Specialist – Asset Care) to join our Packaging Engineering team at Tooheys Brewery in Lidcombe.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a mechanically qualified tradesperson who enjoys getting hands-on with high-speed manufacturing equipment, solving complex technical challenges and driving continuous improvement.
Unlike a traditional breakdown maintenance role, approximately 80% of your time will be focused on planned maintenance, equipment overhauls and improvements, with the remaining 20% supporting breakdowns and troubleshooting.
You'll work across our racking, canning and glass packaging lines, helping improve equipment reliability, performance and efficiency.
Some of the activities you'll be doing in the role:
- Perform planned maintenance, equipment overhauls and continuous improvement activities across high-speed packaging machinery.
- Provide specialist mechanical maintenance support, with some electrical work depending on your qualifications and experience.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime and optimise machine performance.
- Troubleshoot complex equipment issues, applying creative and practical problem-solving skills to find solutions.
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to deliver sustainable improvements and minimise equipment-related disruptions.
- Support and supervise external contractors undertaking specialist maintenance activities.
- Champion a safety-first culture across the brewery.
Some of the skills you'll bring:
- Mechanical Fitter trade qualification – essential.
- Dual trade qualification (Mechanical and Electrical) or Electrical Fitter experience – highly regarded.
- Proven maintenance experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment – essential, ideally within FMCG, beverage, food production or packaging.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills and experience with equipment maintenance, overhauls and continuous improvement.
- A proactive, resourceful approach to problem-solving – someone who can think outside the box and find practical solutions when the obvious answer isn't available.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership and collaborate effectively with production and engineering teams.
- A strong commitment to safety, quality and equipment reliability.
Working hours and roster
This is a permanent full-time, day-shift position with flexible start times generally between 6:00 am and 8:00 am, depending on operational requirements.
Our roster varies seasonally to support brewery operations:
- Summer: Tuesday to Saturday
- Winter: Monday to Friday
You'll be paid fortnightly, with paid overtime and applicable weekend penalty rates available.
If you're a hands-on maintenance specialist who loves solving problems, improving machinery and making things run better, we'd love to hear from you!
